One of the victims of the Las Vegas shooting has been identified as Sonny Melton of Tennessee, who died attending the concert with his wife.

Melton, a registered nurse at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, was attending the concert with his wife, Heather Gulish Melton, when rapid-fire shots rang out over the concert venue. Heather said Melton gave his life to save hers.

“At this point, I’m in complete disbelief and despair. I don’t know what to say. Sonny was the most kind-hearted, loving man I have ever met. He saved my life and lost his,” Gulish Melton told Fox 17 News.

In a Facebook post, Heather called Melton her “true love and knight in shining armor.”

Melton’s family confirmed the death to WZTV. He is one of at least 50 victims after a gunman opened fire on a country music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
