The brother of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock said Paddock was not a particularly religious or political person.

CBS News caught up with Paddock’s brother to ask him if there were any indications that Paddock would have been someone to murder 50 people and injure hundreds in the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

“There’s nothing,” Eric Paddock said. “He went to college, he had a job, you know, you’ll find out. There’s no reason for me to tell you this stuff.”

Eric also said that while Paddock owned guns, they were all legal and all handguns. Police found Paddock in his hotel room with at least 10 rifles, and law enforcement experts have guessed that the shooting was committed with an automatic weapon.

“Find out where he got the machine guns from. Where the hell did he get the machine guns?” Eric asked. “He had a couple of guns but they were all handgun, legal…he might have had 1 long gun, but he had them in a safe…I mean, he had no machine guns.”

Erick Paddock was clearly shocked and uncomfortable at the idea of his brother committing the shooting and told reporters he wished he could help them more.

“This just gets worse for us at this point,” Eric said. “Please don’t attack my mom.”

Eric did not indicate who his mother is, but NBC’s Peter Alexander tweeted that Eric and Stephen’s Paddock’s father was a bank robber on the FBI Most Wanted list.
