The evening news programs of CBS, NBC, and ABC gave President Donald Trump 92 percent negative coverage throughout the month of September, according to a new report.
The Media Research Center sifted through of of the evening coverage by the broadcast networks in September and identified six major topics of coverage: North Korea, immigration policy, post-hurricane disaster response, NFL kneeling controversy, repealing and replacing Obamacare, and cabinet officials using private jets.
The attempted repeal of Obamacare and the use of private jets by cabinet members both received 100 percent negative coverage by CBS, NBC, and ABC. Immigration policy came next with 96 percent negative coverage, followed by the showdown with North Korea that featured 95 percent negative coverage.
Interestingly, the networks gave 81 percent negative coverage to Trump’s comments about the NFL, despite the majority of Americans agreeing that players should not kneel during the National Anthem.
MRC has tracked coverage of Trump since Inauguration Day and discovered that the broadcast networks have given him 90 percent negative coverage and just 10 percent positive coverage, meaning September shifted slightly more negative than the average across Trump’s presidency.
