The Las Vegas gunman, Stephen Paddock, booked two hotel rooms overlooking the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago two months before firing on a crowd of 22,000 country music concertgoers on the Vegas strip.
A screenshot, obtained by TMZ, shows Paddock booked two rooms in Chicago’s Blackstone Hotel across the street from Grant Park, where 400,000 revelers gathered in August to enjoy the three-day music festival.
Paddock reserved one room beginning Aug. 1, two days before the festival began, and a second room with an Aug. 3 check-in date, both reservations concluded on Aug. 6, the same day Lollapalooza ended. Paddock specifically requested that both rooms face Grant Park, allowing for a clear view of the main concert stage as well as the main entry and exit point that hundreds of thousand concertgoers filed through. He reportedly never appeared at the hotel to claim his reservation.
The new revelation is the latest in a string of evidence that suggests Paddock planned his massacre months in advance and appears to have considered multiple venues to carry it out.
Paddock, an avid gambler well-known among Las Vegas casino regulars, reportedly rented multiple condos overlooking the annual Life is Beautiful music festival in Las Vegas the week before he followed through on his deadly plot, according to the Daily Beast.
The shooter spent the year leading up to the mass shooting, which claimed 59 lives including his own, acquiring an arsenal of over 30 firearms, most of them rifles. Paddock’s longtime girlfriend, Marilou Danley, returned from the Philippines Tuesday night to face questioning and has maintained that she was unaware of his plans.
