Actress Kate Beckinsale claims turning down sexual advances from Harvey Weinstein “undoubtedly harmed” her career, the 44-year-old posted on Instagram Thursday.
Beckinsale, an award-winning actress, posted to Instagram about the consequences of saying no to Weinstein’s alleged sexual advances starting from when she was seventeen years old.
Beckinsale, then 17, was called for a meeting with Weinstein at a hotel. She ended up being called to his hotel room.
“I was incredibly naive and young and it did not cross my mind that this older, unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him,” she wrote. “After declining alcohol and announcing that I had school in the morning I left, uneasy but unscathed.”
However, there were greater consequences of saying no to the Oscar-winning producer. “I said no to him professionally many times over the years-some of which ended up with him screaming at me calling me a c— and making threats, some of which made him laughingly tell people oh ‘Kate lives to say no to me,'” recalled Beckinsale.
Beckinsale emphasizes that the industry knew well of his behavior, however, industry insiders would simply shrug it off and say “well, that’s just Harvey.”
