French President Emmanuel Macron will strip Harvey Weinstein of France’s greatest honor, la Légion d’Honneur, he announced on Twitter Sunday.
French politician Nicolas Sarkozy awarded Weinstein the “Legion of Honour” in 2012 for the film “The Artist,” reported Fox News. Recipients can lose this prestigious award due to criminal conviction or for “acts contrary to the honor or those that harm the interests of France,” reported Deadline.com.
Macron has “taken steps” to withdraw the award from Weinstein, according to his Tweet posted Sunday.
J’ai engagé les démarches pour retirer la légion d’honneur à Harvey Weinstein.

Cyclist Lance Armstrong was also stripped of this award in 2014, due to performance-enhancing drug he used during the annual bicycle race the Tour de France.
