The Senate Democratic minority leader over the weekend voiced his support for the current deal after Trump announced Friday that he would not certify Iran’s compliance with the 2015 deal put in place by former President Barack Obama.

“I had a great deal of misgivings about the Iran nuclear deal,” Schumer said during a press conference in New York City. “I voted against it but now we ought to see, give it time to work,” Schumer said.

Schumer voted against the Iran deal in 2015, saying that there was a “very real risk that Iran will not moderate and will, instead, use the agreement to pursue its nefarious goals.”

In November 2016, however, Schumer said that the U.S. should “I’m willing to try. I think the jury’s still out, and I’m willing to wait another year or two,” Schumer told Politico.
