CNN’s Jake Tapper said Friday that former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama were criticizing the “ugliness” that President Trump “might have brought” to America.

Tapper said, “The five former U.S. Presidents are attending a concert tomorrow night to benefit hurricane victims. President Trump is not attending. When you listen to the criticisms by Bush and Obama, they really are criticizing the tone, the invective, and what people think is the ugliness that Trump might have brought out in our society.”

Both former presidents made comments seemingly criticizing Trump this week, with Bush saying, “Our identity as a nation, unlike other nations, is not determined by geography or ethnicity, by soil or blood. Being an American involves the embrace of high ideals and civic responsibility.” (RELATED: Bush: White Supremacy Is ‘Blasphemy Against The American Creed’ [VIDEO])

This comes after Tapper had an awkward moment with a Gold Star Dad Thursday, confusing when Obama and Bush were president and trying to further politicize President Trump’s call to a Gold Star widow. (RELATED: Jake Tapper’s Interview With A Gold Star Dad Didn’t Go So Well [VIDEO])
