With the October 9 report by the British Psychological Society on the benefits of vaping, some folks are beginning to look at things more clearly. In the study they state that vaping is indeed an effective way to curb a smoking habit. They go and say that the taxes and regulation on vaping should be reduced and that cigarette taxes should be increased.

This is a victory for vapers. This is the first institutional endorsement coming out of a Western country. The UK is leading the way with a more practical non-dogmatic approach to vaping.

In April of last year the Royal College of Physicians published their findings in that vaping can prevent almost all of the harm that is caused by smoking cigarettes.

These studies have paved the way for a campaign by the British Government to support the rise in vaping albeit with the underlying argument that it helps in the cessation of smoking. Public Health England as part of their “Stoptober” campaign have encouraged the rise in sales of vaping starter kits. Vape Club, a large retailer of vaporizers, has reported an increase in sales of 37 percent since the beginning of the Stoptober Campaign.

This is indeed an encouraging development. While for now, a dogmatic approach by those seeking restriction will likely prevail for the time being, it is our job to press on. In ten to twenty years when the instances of lung cancer have reached an all-time low, we will be vindicated. We should be prepared to press on with science and reason lest vaping items be so heavily restricted and taxed out of existence.
