Former Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon tied Ed Gillespie, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in Virginia, to neo-Nazis on Friday.

Fallon tweeted a photo of the torch-bearing neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and members of the alt-right from Charlottesville and captioned it, “Live look at Ed Gillespie campaign strategy meeting.”

Fallon, who currently serves as a CNN contributor, does not mention that Gillespie denounced the violent marches in Charlottesville.

Gillespie strongly rebuked the organizers, calling them “a torch-carrying, shield-bearing white supremacist and neo-Nazi mob” that “essentially invaded Virginia.”

Gillespie’s opponent, Democrat Ralph Northam, released an advertisement this week that looked quite similar to Fallon’s tweet. The ad encourages Virginians to “stand up to hate” and features President Donald Trump and Gillespie superimposed over the Charlottesville neo-Nazis. The Virginia election will take place in November and recent polls give Gillespie a slight edge.
