The first movie released from The Weinstein Company since the Harvey Weinstein implosion did not do well at all.

“Amityville: The Awakening” was the first production to hit the big screen screen since Weinstein was accused of being a serial sexual predator, and it only grossed $742, according to TMZ.

TMZ reported the following:

TWC’s “Amityville: The Awakening” — which stars Bella Thorne — reportedly grossed a meager $742 Saturday after being released in just 10 locations … 2 weeks after streaming on Google Play for free.

The movie was shot a while ago, with the first trailer dropping in 2015 — but its release date kept getting pushed back until this month. The announcement for its latest release date came just a couple weeks before Harvey’s first NYT story

I believe this is what people refer to as ‘karma’. You can’t go to some NFL playoff games for less than $1,000 a ticket. It turns out that having a company run by an alleged serial predator isn’t exactly the smartest idea, and people really don’t like supporting companies with that behavior.

Should you ever be allowed to work in Hollywood ever again if your movie grosses less than $1,000 on opening weekend? I’m going to lean towards a heavy no.

As somebody also pointed out to me, having Bella Thorne in a movie isn’t a winning strategy anyways. Add in Weinstein, and you have a perfect recipe for failure. Can’t wait to keep watching this whole thing come crashing down.
