The New England Patriots traded backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers late Monday night.
The move is important because Garoppolo was supposed to be the future for the Patriots. The fact he just got shipped out of town likely means the Patriots aren’t the least bit worried about Tom Brady retiring anytime soon.
The Patriots received a second round pick in return. Adam Schefter has all the details on how the huge trade went down.

It generally takes at least two years to groom a starting quarterback in the NFL. The Patriots are hitting the reset button on that process, which means Brady will probably play two more seasons at a minimum.
He’s currently 40 and has won five Super Bowls. What a wild night in the NFL.
