A company called Honest Marijuana is developing new smokeless products in an attempt to provide the benefits of marijuana without unwanted side effects like paranoia and anxiety.

The Daily Caller News Foundation spoke with Serge Christov, who is a financial partner in the Colorado-based company, about the future of the marijuana industry and the products they have in development.

“Knowing how it’s being grown on a commercial scale makes me believe that I have to go and educate the consumer, because this is just like any other product,” Christov said. “We consume it in the most inefficient and dangerous way that anybody can think of.”

Christov said smoking cannabis not only puts an unnecessary burden on the user’s lungs but wastes most of the product and diminishes its medicinal value.

“You are wasting 90% of your marijuana by smoking it,” he said. “We are in the process of a patent application for a new delivery mechanism of micro-encapsulated cannabis. It has a very similar onset to smoking within 45 to 60 seconds. It penetrates any area. You can use it through your skin [topical cream], or you can use it through a Listerine strip-like device, and it gives you a THC high.”

Christov said the company’s research originated with the National Institute of Health but was never fully realized. They picked up where NIH scientists left off and believe they have made vast improvements.”We grossly improved it,” he said.

Christov believes their formula will cut down on anxiety and be more effective because it contains a greater amount of the chemical CBD.

“If you buy herb, it’s 99.9 percent THC and less than one percent CBD. CBD is what counter reacts the anxiety created by THC. You need to mix them,” Christov said. “When we are able to add CBD into the strip, you can feel the difference. Everything becomes a little bit smoother.”

Christov said things like concentrated vape oils containing THC are another good alternative to smoking, but feels the industry can do a better job of providing cleaner alternatives.

“The cartridge universe is such a big universe it’s very hard to pinpoint the quality. It comes from a completely unregulated third world, and most of it comes from China,” he said. “They’ve done a good job on some of them, but you really don’t know what you are getting.”

When asked if he thinks his company’s products can help curb the opioid crisis and get people off pain killers, Christov said he believes they can help people taper off so long as they are willing. He also blamed pharmaceutical companies for opening Pandora’s box, by pushing large amounts of narcotics in a irresponsible way.

“I have zero doubts, if used properly and willingly these products can help people taper off,” he said. “Those multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies, they’re managing from forty thousand feet in the air and truly don’t understand what’s going on on the ground. They’re dumping something into the hands of people who truly don’t understand how powerful this animal is. And by the time they do, it’s too late.”
