Oklahoma state fan and mega-wealthy businessman T. Boone Pickens wrote coach Mike Gundy a heartfelt letter following a loss to Oklahoma.
Pickens wrote the following:
Dear Mike,
There’s plenty of disappointment to go around after the Bedlam loss, but I’m proud of how we played and the never-give-up mentality. It was one of the greatest games I’ve ever watched and we darn sure didn’t leave looking down at our shoes. I’m proud of you and the team.
I’m proud of @CoachGundy and #okstate football. Thanks for 1 of the greatest games I’ve ever watched. My heartfelt note to coach… pic.twitter.com/l2yucWFctZ

Oklahoma State’s biggest booster has never been happy about team’s record vs Oklahoma under Gundy (now 2-10). This is a change in tone. https://t.co/7JynayzD08

This is just another example of why sports are awesome. Oklahoma State loses a heartbreaker to their biggest rival, and instead of being upset, Pickens reaches out to make sure Gundy knows he’s proud.
Pickens’ letter didn’t have to be written, and I’m sure it wasn’t expected at all. That makes it all the better for Gundy and his guys. Even in the most heartbreaking of moments there’s always something to smile about. Even if it comes in the form of a supportive letter from a big time booster.
