Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield shouldn’t have apologized for grabbing his crotch against Kansas.

Mayfield torched the Jayhawks Saturday. At one point he grabbed his crotch while on the sidelines and appeared to shout “f**k you” towards the Kansas sideline.

He tweeted out the following apology after the game:

I am extremely sorry for how I carried myself today. I am sorry to the Kansas fans, coaches and players for disrespecting them. I am sorry to Sooners fans for not representing our university the way I should. I am so sorry for any parent that had their kid watching, I was not the good and inspiring role model that I aspire to be. What I did was unacceptable and in turn has taken away the attention off our team. Not to mention my solo act reflects poorly on my team/program…which is the opposite of what I want to do. I want my teammates and coaches to get all the attention and credit for working hard and having success. I am sorry to my brothers and coaches as well. I am an extremely competitive player once on the field but that does not excuse and will never excuse my actions today. I truly am sorry from the bottom of my heart.

I would not have been happy if I were Mayfield’s coach. He obviously shouldn’t have done it, and it’s incredibly immature. However, you can’t run around apologizing after pulling a stunt like this. It’s the same garbage he did after sticking a flag at half field moments after beating Ohio State.

Probably shouldn’t do any of this stuff to begin with, but you absolutely can’t be apologizing afterwards. Looks way to weak. Either play the villain role to perfection, or don’t play it at all.
