Seth Meyers is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to host the 2018 Golden Globes Awards in January, according to Variety.

It would be the first time the 43-year-old anchor of NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” would host the event set for January 7. Last year’s event was hosted by fellow late night host Jimmy Fallon. (RELATED: Donald Trump Did Not Watch ‘Hillary Lover’ Meryl Streep’s Speech)

If he decides to do it, he takes on the job amid a wave of sexual misconduct allegations against top Hollywood figures like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.

Meyers was reportedly approached to be the emcee early on, but wouldn’t commit until just a few days ago. Several other big name celebrities, like talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and comedian Tiffany Haddish, were also reportedly asked if they were interested in the gig in the interim.

Other “Saturday Night Live” alums like Amy Poehler and Tina Fey were reportedly asked but declined, despite their highly praised hosting duties from 2013-2015.

According to insiders interviewed by Variety, it has become harder and harder to line up big name celebrities to take on the hosting gigs due to an overall decline in viewership for all the award shows and the possibility of the host being skewered on social media.

With Meyers as the host, no doubt things will turn political as he has been very outspoken against President Donald Trump.
