It’s the second time that Showtime displayed a vaping scene in “Smilf.”
It feels like I am seeing vaping on all of Showtime’s prime time hit series. It was in “Ray Donovan” this past season, Smilf’s 2nd episode of season 1, the last episode of “White Famous,” and now a 2nd vaping scene in Smilf again — although this time it isn’t the type of vaping Daily Vaper speaks about daily.
The vaping scene occurred in this past Sunday’s episode of Smilf: Season 1 Episode 3 titled “Half a Sheet Cake and a Blue Raspberry Slushie.” This time, something else was vaped…
Bridgette, Smilf’s main character, is late on her rent when her landlord shows up at her door. He pleads with her for the back rent, when she offers to get him high instead, for now. Instead of smoking marijuana, they vaped it. He then takes the vape device afterwards and walks out, as she insists on him taking it off the rent she owes as a partial payment.

They vaped marijuana, in what looked to be a regular “pen style” vaping device. In my opinion, it is good to see smokers from all walks of life making healthier decisions. Instead of burning tobacco or “plant,” it is an oil-like liquid that is simply heated up and vaporized, minus all the chemicals and additives of course.
In this case, there isn’t any joint rolling or blunt rolling and instead of using the marijuana plant itself, it is oil derived from the plant. I guess a more concentrated form of THC… In any case producers/writers of the show decided to enter “vaping marijuana” instead of the traditional way it has been done for years, which is smoked.
Vaping in any form, is making it’s way to TV more and more, which tells me it’s beginning to get normalized and maybe even more socially acceptable. It’s a sign of good things to come as more people become familiar with it. After all, health is the most important thing we all share.
