Michigan is reportedly considering the possibility of offering football coach Jim Harbaugh a lifetime contract, and that’s downright insanity.
The report started circulating after comments were made on Fox Sports radio by former Notre Dame quarterback and current Fox sports analyst Brady Quinn.

This is ridiculous if there’s even an ounce of validity to Quinn’s comments. His head coaching record at Michigan is 28-9. That’s certainly above average, and pretty solid. But it’s not anywhere near where a coach should be to earn a lifetime contract.
Jim Harbaugh’s tenure at Michigan:
Year 1- Paid $7 mil, finishes 3rd in B10 East
Year 2 – Paid $9 mil, finishes 3rd in B10 East
Year 3 — Paid $7 mil, likely going to finish 4th in B10 East— John Talty (@JTalty) November 18, 2017
For contrast, Wisconsin’s Paul Chryst has a 32-6 record towards the third year of his tenure in Wisconsin. Chryst isn’t even coming close to sniffing a lifetime contract.
Perhaps Harbaugh should try making a Big Ten championship game before getting a lifetime contract.
