Matt Lauer’s wife filed for divorce in 2006, saying in the suit that she was afraid for her physical and mental wellbeing.

Lauer’s wife, Annette Roque, accused Lauer of “cruel and inhumane” acts in 2006, asking for a divorce before she later withdrew the divorce papers, according to Newsweek. She alleged that Lauer had “a fit of rage” that made her feel unsafe, and he belittled and criticized her abilities as a parent. Roque withdrew the divorce papers three weeks after she filed, according to InTouch Weekly.

The statements made in the divorce filing by Roque resurfaced when NBC announced Wednesday that the network had fired the “Today Show” host after an employee filed a complaint about inappropriate behavior in the office.

“Dear colleagues, on Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer,” NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack wrote in a memo. “As a result we’ve decided to terminate his employment.”

“While it is the first complaint about his behavior over the twenty years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident,” Lack added. (RELATED: Matt Lauer Fired From NBC News After Inappropriate Sexual Conduct Complaint)
