President Donald Trump responded to The New York Times editorial board’s advocacy on tax reform by calling the paper “the pipe organ for the Democrat Party” in a series of tweets Thursday.

Since the Times is wrong so often, Trump said, he suggested the tax bill must be a “winner.”

The Times editorial board took over the @NYTopinion twitter page Wednesday to encourage readers to call Republican senators and urge them “to reject a tax bill that hurts the middle class & the nation’s fiscal health.”

Tagging the Times main Twitter account, Trump repeated the epithet that the paper is “failing” and added that it is “the pipe organ for the Democrat Party,” and has become “a virtual lobbyist for them with regard to our massive Tax Cut Bill. They are wrong so often that now I know we have a winner!”

Trump tagged the show “Fox and Friends” in a subsequent tweet saying the Times had violated their own social media guidelines, which are designed to keep reporters non-partisan on social media.

The Failing @nytimes has totally gone against the Social Media Guidelines that they installed to preserve some credibility after many of their biased reporters went Rogue! @foxandfriends

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said late Wednesday that the Times tweets should convince Americans to “stop pretending that the NYT isn’t a political organization.”
