For decades, the American embassy in Israel has been located in Tel Aviv, not in Jerusalem, but it sounds like that could change very soon.

The decision to house the American embassy there was a political one and stems from Jerusalem being the disputed capitol of Israel.

Jerusalem is still claimed by the Palestinians as the rightful capital of Palestine. Jerusalem became the capital of Israel after Israeli troops stormed the city during the Six-Day War. Since then, Israel has located it’s government, centers of commerce and culture in the city.

How many administrations have promised to move the American Embassy to Israel, including the Trump administration? According to a breaking news report by Axios Friday, the Trump administration is recognizing Jerusalem as the undisputed Capitol next week.

Per to the report:

President Trump is giving a speech Wednesday recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, according to two sources with direct knowledge.

A White House spokesman refused to confirm the report: “The President has always said it is a matter of when, not if. The President is still considering options and we have nothing to announce.”

This move will be a big one.
