The media and political worlds were set ablaze last Friday with news of Michael Flynn cooperating with the Muller special counsel investigation, and President Donald Trump poured more gasoline on that fire Monday morning.
Flynn advised Trump during the campaign, and after serving as national security adviser for 24 days, he was fired, reportedly for lying to Vice President Mike Pence. He pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI Friday.
Before departing the White House for a rally in Utah Monday morning, Trump was asked about Michael Flynn lying to the FBI. The president said “I feel badly for General Flynn.”
“He’s led a very strong life,” he continued.
Then, Trump immediately turned the question around on the reporters, saying:
I will say this. Hillary Clinton lied many times to the FBI. And nothing happened to her. Flynn lied and they destroyed his life. I think it’s a shame. Hillary Clinton on 4th of July weekend went to the FBI, not under oath, it was the most incredible thing anyone’s ever seen. She lied many times. Nothing happened to her. Flynn lied and it’s like they ruined his life. It’s very unfair.
After the stunning comment, the president walked away.
