New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said he is going after the non-profit Project Veritas and their ability to collect charitable donations Tuesday, because founder James O’Keefe did not fully disclose his past criminal convictions to the state.
Schneiderman, a Democrat, said the group misled state authorities on a 2011 application for a charitable solicitation license, when they claimed none of their senior officials had ever been convicted of a crime, The Daily Beast Reports.
O’Keefe pleaded guilty in 2010 to entering a federal building under false pretenses, after breaking into Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu’s office. He was sentenced to three years probation, fined $1,500 and had to serve 100 hours of community service.
Project Veritas maintains it was in full compliance with state law, and claims O’Keefe didn’t rank high enough in the organization to warrant an official mention.
“On all of New York’s charity forms, Project Veritas provided all the information requested,” O’Keefe told The Daily Beast. “If Project Veritas is required to provide the New York Attorney General with additional information about this matter, Project Veritas will do so.”
