The largest feminist group in Quebec elected a transgender man as its new leader in an effort to “deconstruct and eliminate patriarchy” per its mission.

The “Federation des Femmes du Quebec” elected 49-year-old transgender advocate and unicorn enthusiast Gabrielle Bouchard to lead their group, which has over 700 members and oversees 300 other feminist groups. The group seeks to eliminate “systems of oppression or domination with which it is intertwined, such as capitalism, racism, imperialism, heterosexism, colonialism, capacityism and ageism that work together to marginalize and exploit women,” according to its website translated into English by Lifesite News. Bouchard has been “a longtime militant feminist,” according to its statement regarding his election.

Bouchard, who has received notable criticism after his election said that such criticism “presumes all women live the same experience — which is not true,” according to the Canadian Press. “All the barriers I face are actually based in sexism. They also happen to be based in transphobia. I am living at the intersection of trans identity and being a woman, and it creates a marginalization that some women don’t face.”

“How much more do we need to prove that Western civilization has gone insane?” Quebec’s Campaign Life president, Georges Buscemi, told LifeSiteNews. “There’s a man at the head of the women’s association.”

Bouchard’s election comes after transgender Danica Roem, a biological male, beat conservative delegate Robert Marshall, becoming the first openly transgender state representative in the U.S.
