This week’s episode of Alternative Facts discussed a false CNN report that claimed Donald Trump Jr. obtained access to a cache of Democratic National Committee documents via WikiLeaks, a Russian-aligned activist group.
CNN’s story was disseminated widely across other media platforms, including MSNBC and CBS, before the network corrected the false reporting. The documents in question were publicly available by the time they reached the Trump campaign, which belied early claims the exchange was proof of secret collusion with Russian interests.
The network says the error was made in good faith, and that the story was subject to a lengthy editorial process.

Alt Facts also discussed derisive comments about evangelical Christians made by several reporters in advance of Tuesday’s special election in Alabama, where Republican candidate Roy Moore and Democratic opponent Doug Jones are competing for Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ old Senate seat. Moore continues to draw strong support from evangelicals, despite the fact he has been accused of sexual misconduct.
