A Bangladesh immigrant, Akayed Ullah, attempted to blow himself up Monday in the New York subway. The attempted suicide bomber strapped a pipe bomb to himself and entered the subway with the intent of causing maximum carnage at rush hour.

Ullah set off the bomb, injuring four. Ullah was the most injured, suffering severe burns to his torso. He is in critical condition.

Now, reporters are pointing to the major motivations behind Ullah’s terror: Christmas.

According to The New Yourk Times, the subway’s Christmas-themed posters were the motivation for the location of the attack, along with revenge for recent ISIS bombings.

He chose the location because of its Christmas-themed posters, recalling strikes in Europe against Christmas markets, he told investigators, and set off bomb in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes on ISIS targets in Syria and elsewhere, several law enforcement officials said.

Ullah was in America as a result of chain migration, a policy the Trump administration wants to end.
