The first trailer for the upcoming movie about the death of Mary Jo Kopechne was released Wednesday.

The plot of “Chappaquiddick,” according to the YouTube description, is, “Nearly five decades ago, on July 18, 1969, a car went off the Dike Bridge on the island of Chappaquiddick. The driver, Ted Kennedy escaped. His 28-year-old passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, did not. An upcoming movie, Chappaquiddick, attempts to tell the story of what happened that night and why it took Kennedy some ten hours to report the accident to the local Edgartown police.”

Jason Clarke stars as Senator Ted Kennedy and Kate Mara will play Kopechne. The trailer paints a dark picture of the incident, which went on to arguably define Ted Kennedy’s entire career.

This movie should be outstanding. What happened that fateful night July 18, 1969 still isn’t entirely known, and almost certainly never will be at this point.

However, the accident and Kopechne’s death were one of the biggest scandals in recent American political history. Kennedy only ended up to pleading guilty to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

The movie is schedule to be released April 6, 2018.
