Officer Andy Cazeau of the Cambridge, Mass., police department rang in the new year assisting a woman giving birth just as the baby’s head was crowning.

Cazeau, who is also a Marine Corps veteran, was winding down his shift early Monday morning, when he was alerted to a situation with a pregnant mother who needed help, according to Fox News.

Cazeau arrived at the woman’s Massachusetts home and asked her husband to gather towels for the delivery. He noticed the baby’s head was beginning to show and told the mother to push as hard as she could. After the next contraction, the baby was safely delivered.

“The next contraction came, the baby came out, I guided the head out,” he told Boston 25, Fox News reported. Two of his fellow officers arrived on the scene after the successful delivery.

The department praised the officers on their Facebook page and congratulated them on a “job well done.”

“It was just something we weren’t expecting to do on New Year’s Eve night but amazing to witness, to be a part of,” Cazeau’s fellow Officer Mark Donovan told Boston 25.
