North Korea has agreed to meet for high-level talks at the border next week, according to South Korean media reports.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un expressed an interest in talks Monday and ordered the re-opening of a dormant hotline between the two Koreas Wednesday. In the wake of North Korea’s initial overture, South Korea proposed a meeting in the Panmunjom truce village at the heavily-fortified demilitarized zone on Jan. 9.

The meeting will reportedly focus on North Korea’s participation in the Winter Olympics scheduled to be held in PyeongChang, South Korea in February and ways to improve ties, Yonhap News Agency reports.

While many experts are wary of North Korea’s sudden call for talks, suspecting that North Korea is playing South Korea to secure certain concessions, the South Korean government under the leadership of President Moon Jae-in believes that negotiations are vital for an effective and peaceful resolution to rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

President Donald Trump has thrown his support to the planned discussions, asserting Thursday that “talks are a good thing!”
