Former UCLA quarterback and elite 2018 NFL draft prospect Josh Rosen reportedly wants to use football as a way to get money.

I know it’s a shocking claim for anybody to make. Sporting News reported the following:

According to sources who have spoken with people close to Rosen, he has been focused since high school on using football to make money and support the type of lifestyle he wants. He’s OK with challenging the system and being a mouthpiece for divisiveness because he appreciates the attention it draws.

I have one main reaction to this report.

Has there ever been a professional athlete in the history of sports who didn’t want to use their athletic abilities to make money?

I don’t recall anybody ever donating the vast majority of their earnings from pro sports. One of the best parts about being a pro athlete is the paychecks are nice and big. How is this an actual comment from a source? This is the equivalent of saying that athletes like to use sports to pick up women. Of course they do! That’s part of being a star athlete.

It’d be newsworthy if it was the opposite. There are lots of knocks against Rosen. Wanting to get money for throwing a football is certainly not one of them.
