President Donald Trump praised the billionaire Mercer family Friday for cutting financial ties with Breitbart chairman Steve Bannon.

Bannon made several incendiary comments about the president and his family in Michael Wolff’s new book on the Trump administration.

Trump and Rebecca Mercer reportedly shared a phone call Thursday to craft a statement condemning Bannon. “My family and I have not communicated with Steve Bannon in many months and have provided no financial support to his political agenda, nor do we support his recent actions and statements,” she said after her phone call with the president.

Mercer also is reportedly considering forcing a vote within Breitbart’s board of directors oust Bannon for his comments. These comments include a personal insult of Ivanka Trump’s intelligence and a suggestion that Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer offering information on then candidate Hillary Clinton was “treasonous.”

Trump excoriated Bannon after the initial comments were revealed Wednesday in a statement declaring that Bannon “not only lost his job, he lost his mind.”
