The superstar singer Pink will perform the National Anthem at Super Bowl LII, according to an announcement by the NFL this morning.

The “Raise Your Glass” singer will open the game on February 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. It’s a pretty big deal for Pink – unlike this year’s halftime headliner Justin Timberlake – she’s never performed at a Super Bowl before.

She’ll join the ranks of some pretty notable past Super Bowl Anthem singers, including Lady Gaga, Billy Joel, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Mariah Carey. Even though some people are thrilled with the selection, others are already speculating this may not be your average “Star Spangled Banner” performance.

This year’s NFL season has been marked with considerable controversy surrounding the National Anthem protests. Dozens of players knelt during pregame performances to protest racial injustice and police brutality around the country.

Although Pink hasn’t yet directly addressed the Anthem controversy, she isn’t one to shy away from politics. In December, the singer publicly trashed President Trump for setting a poor example for young children. She’s also raising her biologically female six year old daughter to dress as both genders and makes a concerted effort to be a “label-less household.”

Super Bowl LII will kick off on February 4th at 6:30 PM on NBC.
