Former White House chief strategist and outgoing Breitbart News chair Steve Bannon is deeply unpopular among Republicans, a new poll reveals.

Bannon attacked President Trump and his family shortly before stepping down from Breitbart. Now, Bannon is more unpopular with Republican voters than ever before. Just 19 percent of Republicans have a favorable opinion of Bannon, according to a new Morning Consult poll out Wednesday. Almost half of GOP voters, 46 percent, say they have an unfavorable opinion of Bannon.

After Bannon attacked Trump’s family, the president publicly mocked Bannon as “Sloppy Steve” and said he “lost his mind.” Trump’s oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., also attacked Bannon for his “backstabbing” against Trump. Bannon had earned a reputation for leaking damaging stories about Trump to the media.

Bannon announced his departure from Breitbart on Tuesday following extreme internal pressure to step down.

Bannon’s deep unpopularity with Republicans is the latest hit for Bannon, who was once considered so influential within the White House that media outlets described him as “President Bannon” and credited him with orchestrating Trump’s victory. Since then, Bannon has been fired from the White House and lost his Breitbart position, and now Republican voters want nothing to do with him.
