A man who was reportedly drinking vodka leaped onto the New York City subway tracks while shouting about “equality” Wednesday.

Subway commuters got quite a surprise when a man holding a vodka bottle jumped onto the subway tracks around 1:30 p.m. while praising the social justice movement and equality, reported the New York Post. The man also threatened to kill himself over gender inequality regarding unfair treatment of women.

“People were mostly pleading with him: ‘Just come up, come up,'” photojournalist Eli Wohl told the New York Post. “Whatever he did, he kept on mentioning different social issues — women’s rights and racial stuff.”

Responders tried to get the man off the tracks, however, he kept taunting them by licking his finger while touching the third rail.

Wohl also captured a video of the scene.

The man was eventually removed from the tracks without injury.
