Former FBI Director James Comey weighed in on social media once again into the day’s latest political controversy, this time regarding President Donald Trump’s comments on immigrants.

After the president reportedly called Haiti and various African countries “shitholes,” Comey took to Twitter and quoted a section of “The New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus, most famous for being printed on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” Comey quoted.

“This country’s greatness and true genius lies in its diversity,” Comey added.

Trump has since denied making the comments in the context with which they were reported.

Comey’s Thursday tweet was just the latest of a series of passive-aggressive remarks he has made towards the president. While never directly addressing Trump, Comey has repeatedly shared quotes on social media about the need for strong domestic leadership.
