A tough as nails New York grandmother took down a man attempting to steal her purse Friday, and the whole exchange was captured on video.

Erunna Walowit, 80, bravely defended herself from a robber who attempted to steal her purse, reported the New York Post. The elderly woman refused to give up her bag, and as her assailant ran away, she was knocked down and dragged him through the hallway of an Upper East Side building.

Walowit held on to her purse with a fierce grip and screamed so loudly that the robber and his friend rushed away terrified. Luckily Walowit’s neighbor Alex Weiss heard her cries and rushed to help out.

“All of a sudden we just started hearing screaming and she knows our name so she screamed our names and we bolted out. She was on the ground laying down, some guy was pulling at her purse. So I ran out and I screamed at him and that’s when he ran out,” said Weiss who was with his girlfriend, reported CBS New York.

“Good for her for fighting them off,” added onlooker Juhi Patel.

Weiss added that although his elderly neighbor was definitely shaken, there were no injuries.

Neighbors described the elderly woman as “spunky.”

Walowit is not the only elderly woman who courageously stood her ground. Gina Zuckerman, a 91-year-old holocaust survivor, bravely fought off a female robber who tried to take her purse in 2016, according to the NY Post.

The same thieves are wanted for robbing a 23-year-old woman Dec. 15.
