Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy referred to Africa as a “country” during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on immigration policy.
Leahy chided DHS secretary Kirstjen Nielsen for President Donald Trump’s alleged insistence that Haiti, El Salvador, and African counties are “shithole countries.”
Leahy must have gotten too impassioned during his criticism, as he forgot that Africa is a continent and not a country.
“You imply the president was articulating support for merit-based immigration system like those in Australia or Canada,” Leahy said. “But when he denigrated Haiti and El Salvador, and Africa–a country where we are trying to have some ability to match China and others in influence…he said he wanted more people from Norway.”
“Being from Norway is not a skill,” Leahy asserted.
Being from Norway might not be a skill, but knowing geography is, and Leahy seems to be lacking in that department.
