Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson got an “F” on a high school music paper changed to an “A” more 50 years later, according to a Tuesday report.

Wilson, who wrote, produced, sang, and played keyboards and bass for the Beach Boys, got the grade change at Hawthorne High School in Las Vegas, Nev., on a composition that eventually became the band’s first single, reported The Washington Post.

“Brian wrote a composition for me and it turned out to be ‘Surfin’,'” said Fred Morgan, Wilson’s high school music teacher. “That composition got an ‘F,’ but it made a million dollars.”

Dr. Vanessa Landesfeind, who serves as the current principal of Hawthorne High School, made the grade change.

Wilson became the first pop artist to perform, produce, write, and arrange his work upon the 1963 release of the Beach Boys album “Surfer Girl.”
