Seventy-six percent of Americans want significant abortion restrictions, including making abortion illegal after three months in pregnancy, according to a new poll.

Even though states such as Colorado and Oregon, along with the District of Columbia, have no legal restrictions on abortions, Marist Poll’s “Americans’ Opinions On Abortions” data released January 2018 indicate that 12 percent of Americans think abortion should be available to a woman any time during her pregnancy. However, 26 percent think women should only be able to have an abortion during the first three months of pregnancy.

Funded in partnership with The Knights of Columbus, the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion conducted two survey by randomly selecting and interviewing 1,267 adults 18 years and older between Dec. 4 and 7, and 1,350 adults again between Jan. 8 and 10.

Across the political spectrum, Americans indicated they want significant restrictions on when abortions can be made available, with 92 percent of Republicans, 61 percent of Democrats and 78 percent of Independents in favor of significant abortion restrictions.

Thirty percent of Americans think abortions should only be permitted in cases of rape, incest, or where the mother’s life is in danger. Twelve percent think abortions should only be allowed to save the life of the mother. Eight percent of Americans think abortion should never be permitted.

Close to 60 percent of Americans think abortion is morally wrong, and half of even pro-abortion proponents think aborting a child who will be born with a genetic disorder is wrong.

More than 60 percent of Americans are also in favor of banning abortions after 20 weeks in pregnancy and six in 10 Americans also oppose using tax dollars to pay for abortions. (RELATED: The Number Of Abortion Providers Dropped Nationwide. Here Are The Stats You Need To Know)

The number of abortion providers in the U.S. has also dropped seven percent in recent years, falling from 851 in 2011 to 788 in 2014, according to the Guttmacher Institute.
