Senator Bernie Sanders is somehow pinning the government shutdown on the Koch brothers and their “anti-government ideology.”

“This government shutdown is part of the long-term, anti-government ideology paid for by the Koch brothers,” Sanders tweeted on Sunday.

Even most establishment media outlets are placing blame on Democrats for the shutdown because they insisted on including protections for DACA recipients in negotiations about the federal budget. A vast majority of Senate Democrats then blocked a continuing resolution–which required 60 votes to pass–that would temporarily fund the government. Sanders’ assertion that the Kochs are behind the shutdown is even more bizarre because Charles Koch agrees with the general Democrat position on DACA.

In an opinion piece for The Washington Post in December, Koch wrote with Apple CEO Tim Cook that Congress “must act on the ‘dreamers.'”

“This is a political, economic and moral imperative,” the pair wrote. “The sooner Congress resolves this situation — on a permanent basis — the sooner dreamers can seize the opportunity to plan their lives and develop their talents.”
