A young Uber driver trying to raise some cash in the Mexican border city of Tijuana was reportedly shot and killed Thursday morning after getting in a fender bender.

Karla Garrufe, 21, died soon after being gunned down, according to Reuters. The suspect is still on the loose and prosecutors say authorities are actively looking for the perpetrator.

A witness to the situation said both had been arguing after Garrufe bumped into the other motorist’s car. At some point during the back-and-forth, the suspect got out a firearm, fatally shot her, and then fled.

The number of murders in Mexico soared in 2017, with officials in the country attributing the spike to the growing power of certain drug cartels. The murder rate is now at its highest level in decades, a 23 percent increase compared to last year, reports The Wall Street Journal. Tijuana is located right below San Diego, Calif., only roughly 20 miles away.
