A California teacher has been pulled out of the classroom after a student posted a video of him bashing the military and calling its members low lives.
“Think about the people who you know who are over there. Your freaking stupid Uncle Louie or whatever. They’re dumb—-s. They’re not like high-level thinkers, they’re not academic people, they’re not intellectual people. They’re the lowest of our low,” El Rancho High School teacher Gregory Salcido, said to his students, the Whittier Daily News reported Monday.
One of Salcido’s students who hopes to become a Marine took multiple videos of the teacher making obscene remarks and posted them to Facebook on Friday night, prompting the city council and school board to take action. Video of the teacher’s comments have since been taken down from Facebook.
“One thing we are telling people for sure is that the commitment of the board and the superintendent and the staff is to really get to the bottom of this for the community,” School Superintendent Karling Aguilera-Fort told the paper. Salcido has been banned from the classroom pending an investigation.
The city council and town mayor strongly condemned the teachers remarks and affirmed their strong support for all servicemen. “The City Council and residents of Pico Rivera are steadfast in the recognition that the contributions by those who have served or are currently serving our country via military service are respected and we are grateful for their service,” Mayor Gustavo Camacho said in a Monday statement.
A Pentagon spokesman also weighed in on Salcido’s behavior, calling his remarks “very uninformed,” according to Fox News.
Salcido has refused all interviews, citing the emotional and physical health of his wife and son as his main priority.
