“Jeopardy” host Alex Trebek could not fathom how contestants Thursday could know so little about football.

In a “Talkin’ Football” category, the contestants didn’t answer a single question correctly. They didn’t even buzz in to attempt an answer. The answers were the option, the Dallas Cowboys, fair catch, offsetting penalties, and the Purple People Eaters.

“Uh, you think we should go to commercial?” asked host Alex Trebek after nobody guessed the Cowboys for the second question.

The audience laughter grew with each non-response, and Trebek milked it, roasting the contestants and proving he’s a secret comic genius.

When the final $1,000 clue rolled around, Trebek suggested they look at it, “just for the fun of it.” The video clue about the Minnesota Vikings’ famed defensive line from the 1970s clearly went over the contestants’ head, and Trebek couldn’t hide his incredulity. “If you guys ring in and get this one, I will die.”

Regardless, three people lost their chance at $3,000 because they didn’t know a thing about America’s favorite sport.
