Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez said in a statement Friday that the House Intel Committee’s memo on FISA abuse was a “sham.”

“This sham memo was written and released for one purpose and one purpose only: to discredit Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. In authorizing its release, Trump ignored law enforcement appointees, who believe the memo is both inaccurate and a threat to our national security.”

“The American people deserve to know the truth about Trump’s ties to Russia and whether he obstructed justice to prevent that truth from coming out. The release of this memo makes clear that Trump and his henchmen on Capitol Hill will do everything they can to undermine this investigation, even if they jeopardize our national security in the process. We can’t let them undermine our justice system to serve their partisan political interests. No one is above the law,” the statement concluded.

The memo, released to the public Friday, reveals that a secret FISA warrant used to spy on Carter Page would not have been sought without the unverified Steele dossier. (RELATED: Memo Says Spy Warrant Would Not Have Been Sought Without Dossier)
