Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook shoved a fan Thursday night, but he could have gone way farther.

A fan got in Westbrook’s face after he lost to the Denver Nuggets, and the superstar point guard responded by pushing him out of his way.

I hate violence, and think it’s almost always unnecessary. However, you deserve to get clocked if you get on the court and in a player’s face. What the hell was that guy thinking? You can’t get up into a player’s grill and expect to get away with it.

That’s a legit safety concern for the athletes, and they should have every right in the world to defend themselves. I’m not even going to hesitate to say that an athlete should have every right in the world to punch a dude you runs up into his face after a game. Where was the security? Where are the police?

The most impressive part about this whole thing is the fact Westbrook actually restrained himself whatsoever. I don’t think most players would have. We all remember what happened during the Malice in the Palace.
