The Detroit Lions officially announced the hiring of Matt Patricia Monday afternoon.

Well, it’s officially game time in the Motor City. Jim Caldwell was shown the door, and Patricia now officially is in control of the team. As a Lions fan, I love this hire. As I wrote earlier, you need to change the culture in Detroit, and Patricia might be the guy to get the job done.

He was part of a massive winning culture in New England as their defensive coordinator. We need that to follow him to Detroit like we need air in our lungs. I would have to guess that winning with Bill Belichick played a rather large role in the decision to hire the defense-minded coach.

Now it’s time to put up or shut up for the Lions. This is a unique opportunity to take a winning assistant coach, Matt Stafford, our offense and try to win some games. If it doesn’t happen at this point, then I’m not sure it ever will for my guys.

Let Stafford sit back there and just sling the ball all over the field and build a suffocating defense. I have a feeling the future in Detroit is very bright.
