Remember that time Einstein said he’s only certain that one thing was infinite in this world, and that was human stupidity?

Well it looks like he was right about that one, because it just keeps reaching new depths every day.

On Tuesday, writer Travis Waldron took that joint to the next level when he suggested we ban the US from the Olympics.

Why, you might ask, would Waldron — an American — think banning his own country from the Olympics is a good idea? Well in case you hadn’t guessed it already, he’s a flaming leftist who’s so embarrassed by one US Olympic doctor that he genuinely believes the the entire US is responsible for his misdoings.

He claims that disgraced USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar’s actions don’t meet Olympic Committee standards and even claims removing him and jailing him are not enough. “Why not ban the United States?” Waldron asks. “By what moral logic are the Russians any more deserving of punishment than Americans?”

Most Russian athletes were banned from competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics after revelations of rampant doping surfaced in December. Athletes were banned because athletes were doing bad things. That’s usually how it works.

Perhaps this is news to Mr. Waldron, but the US does not punish people for other people’s crimes. That’s what we consider backwards, outdated, and problematic. Not to mention, the entire USA Gymnastics board of directors resigned in January to help atone for Larry Nassar’s sins. Heads rolled. It sent shockwaves across universities, athletic divisions, and yes, the US Olympic Committee. Why should an unassuming curler be punished for a Summer Olympics doctor’s actions? In what world does that make sense?

This is one of the coldest takes the world has ever seen. This guy should get his Twitter blue checkmark, access to Microsoft Word, and American passport revoked. I can’t understand why Travis Waldron hates American athletic dominance, other than the strong likelihood that he sucks at sports was probably always last picked in every gym class. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times. If you hate American sports, you hate America. It’s as simple as that.
