CNN’s Chris Cuomo continued to push for gun control in the wake of Wednesday’s Parkland, Fla., school shooting and attacked President Donald Trump for allegedly having no desire to fix the problem.
“President Trump just tweeted about the deadly shooting. Here it is again. I think it’s important that you hear it because it expresses so much about how stupid this situation is,” Cuomo said Thursday on “New Day.” “The president so far hasn’t spoken publicly about the tragedy. But I think the tweet is enough to show where his head is on this and what it is that he fundamentally doesn’t get.”
Trump said in the tweet that school officials and classmates have to be extra vigilant when they suspect another student of having mental health issues and report those concerns to the proper authorities.
So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior. Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!

Cuomo was interviewing New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman when he pounced on the tweet and bashed the president.
“That’s a dumb thing he just put out. Because while all of those things are true, none of them, you can call the police all you want. You’re not taking this young man’s gun away from him,” Cuomo said. “He either doesn’t understand how the law works or he’s being glib and trying to cast blame somewhere else. Whatever it is, I don’t know how it’s helpful.”
“This is not his strong suit,” Haberman replied. “Being the comforter-in-chief. Being the person who sends sort of a moral message. We have very infrequently seen him do that.”
Cuomo then accused Trump of lacking the will to tackle gun reform, and claimed he’s stayed silent on the issue.
“Obviously [Trump] doesn’t have the resolve to do anything about this. After Vegas he said we’ll be talking about gun laws as time goes on,” Cuomo concluded. “He hasn’t said a word.”
