Republican Sen. Tim Scott called out Democrats for trying to capitalize politically off of the Parkland, Florida school shooting.
The Democratic National Committee used the shooting as fundraising fodder in an email sent out Thursday that vowed to fight the gun lobby, and Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal insisted in a TV interview that Republicans would lose elections if they did not tackle gun control in Congress. (RELATED: DNC Fundraises Off Florida Shooting)
During a Fox News interview on Saturday, anchor Neil Cavuto asked Sen. Scott if he thought it was “a little extreme” for Democrats to be politicizing the shooting.
“Neil, you said a little extreme, that is incredibly extreme, and unfortunately it is politicizing and capitalizing on a heinous crime,” Scott asserted. “We ought not find ways to win elections off terrible tragedies in this country. We should find ways to solve the problem and prevent these tragedies.”
“I believe that the highest probability of us preventing that crime is not another gun law that would have been broken, but actually having put the pieces together like a puzzle and solved that problem before the crime was committed,” Scott argued.
