John Kasich scrubbed a section of his website over the weekend that emphasized his history of loosening gun laws as governor of Ohio.

Going back to just Saturday, Kasich’s website featured criticisms of former President Barack Obama’s gun control proposals as well as several paragraphs bragging about his history championing pro-gun policies in his tenure as governor.

“Gov. John R. Kasich continues to be a strong supporter of the right to bear arms and, as governor, has signed every pro-2nd amendment bill that has crossed his desk to defend this basic, constitutional right. John Kasich is a gun owner himself, and in his 2014 reelection was enrosed by the National Rifle Association for his support of the Second Amendment as an inviolate part of our Constitution,” Kasich’s website once read.

Since the school shooting in southern Florida at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, Kasich, a Republican, has dramatically changed his tune, appearing on cable news shows and calling for an oversweep of our nation’s gun laws.

“What would you lose?” Kasich said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Would you feel as though your Second Amendment rights would be eroded because you couldn’t buy a God darn AR15? These are the things that have to be looked at, and action has to happen.”

Kasich’s flip-flop on gun laws appears particularly cynical, particularly because he voted against the so-called Brady Bill in 1993 when he was in Congress. That bill required a federal background check for gun owners.

Jon Keeling, a spokesman for Kasich, said sunday that the Ohio governor is going to talk to a group of “interested parties on both sides” to brainstorm new gun safety laws.
